APS: First Look at New Kenmore-Garfield CLC
The Akron Board of Education has something to look at now from the design team working on the community learning center to be built on the site of Garfield High School.

GPD Group and John Peterson updated the school board at its last meeting on building plans for the new CLC students from Kenmore-Garfield will move into when completed. Peterson said this will be a three-story structure with approximately 260,000 square feet.

Staff, family and visitors will have close to 400 parking spaces and entrance to the lot on Archwood Avenue. Cars and buses will exit onto Brown Street.

The board also saw other features of the new school that will include: decorative structural pieces from both Kenmore and Garfield, a three-story central courtyard in the educational wing that will add natural light to classrooms, a 1,400-seat-capacity gym and a 200-seat auxiliary gym, and an auditorium that will seat 700.

These design concepts will now be submitted to the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.
